Swampscott, MA; completed 2023 | In August of 2021, we sent 4 people to measure and photograph the building, its nooks and crannies and its wonderful uniqueness. This adaptive re-use project with Rise Realty presented several challenges: solving traffic patterns and parking to not disrupt ongoing activity at the adjacent church, school, and rectory; how to maximize unit size, and count without changing the exterior openings; and adapting to new discoveries during construction. Without constructing an addition, the units to be fitted into the existing shell would need to be desirable enough to cover the larger expense of a full restoration and overhaul of the old structure.
